1893-8, Alex. B. McDonald The People`s Palace is a tall red Locharbriggs sandstone building in French Renaissance style. The entrance is decorated with the city`s coat of arms on either side of which is an angel. Tall columns and pilasters decorate the first floor. Above these are six statues (by Kellock Brown) which represent Shipbuilding, Mathematics and Science, Painting, Sculpture, Engineering and Textiles. Above them are Science and Art, and at the top is Progress. Outside the main entrance are a number of decorated lampstandards; one is dated 1902, another bears the name of the ironfounder, Walter Macfarlane and another bears the insignia G & S W R (Glasgow & South West Railway). This article is based on the guidebook "The Glasgow Guide". More
