Dumbarton Road Bridge is at the western end of Kelvingrove Park and it carried Dumbarton Road over the River Kelvin. In its time this was an important crossing but it was closed in 1878 and superseded by the more modern structure alongside, Partick Bridge.

It has three arches over the river and another which crosses the lade that carried water to the Bunhouse Mills. The bridge`s railings are rather unusual as they have gates which could be opened to allow snow cleared off the roads to be dropped into the river.

The bridge affords a fine view of the tower of Glasgow University.

This article is based on the guidebook "The Glasgow Guide".

Ivy now covers much of this attractive old bridge.
