The index lists all the places and subjects which are in The Glasgow Encyclopaedia and it provides links to the relevent articles.
Duplicate links
Where necessary, there are "duplicate" links to help you find the information you want. Some examples are given below.
1 Some buildings are known by both their name and their address; this is common with many of the large Victorian commercial buildings in the city centre. In these cases, buildings such as the Edinburgh Life Assurance Building in St Vincent Street are listed under "Edinburgh Life Assurance Building" and "St Vincent Street".
2 Monuments are entered under their own name (eg "Stewart Memorial Fountain") and perhaps also their location, in this case "Kelvingrove Park", if this is thought to be helpful.
Biographies
People`s names are also included in the Index and the entries refer to biographies, statues and any buildings they are associated with.
